Amalgam waste consists of amalgam in any form including all other materials contaminated with amalgam. This is due to it's mercury content which has been identified by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as being the Number 1 environmental poison. Amalgam waste should be stored in white rigid receptacles with a mercury suppressant. Amalgam waste should be sent to suitable licensed or permitted waste management facilities where the waste undergoes a mercury recovery process prior to final disposal.
