The Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 also requires producers of hazardous waste in England and Wales to register each year with the Environment Agency. Once registered each premises is provided with unique premises notification number. Some exemptions exist for specific sites that are defined as 'low risk' and produce less than 200 kg of hazardous waste per annum. There are no requirements for hazardous waste producers to register with SEPA in Scotland or NIEA in Northern Ireland.
Whilst exempt sites may not be required to register their premises with regulatory bodies, it is important to realize that any hazardous waste must still be treated according to the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005 and can only be collected and disposed of by a registered waste carrier at licensed hazardous waste disposal facility.
PHS All Clear can register your site on your behalf. There is a fee for doing so and registration must be renewed annually. Please contact us if you require premises notification registration or would like further guidance.
